Foxton

Sitting on a coastal plain south-west of Palmerston North, Foxton is part of the Horowhenua District, known for its mild climate and market gardens. The town was once New Zealand's flax-stripping capital and has the country's only working flax-stripping museum as well as a full-size working windmill.

Also book a day playing golf on Foxton's 18 hole golf course.

Foxton Beach

Is a popular spot for holidaymakers. The beach has good swimming, fishing, surfing, kitesurfing, four-wheel dirve tracks, and there is good hiking along the coast and in the nearby Taraua Ranges.

There is superb bird-watching at Manawatu river estuary, where up to 38 species of migratory birds can visit, including Royal spoonbills, shearwaters, petrels, grey teals, sandpipers, godwits, terns and wrybills. A viewing platform overlooking the estuary is situated at the end of Dawick Street, Foxton Beach.
